Police charge man with large commercial drug supply - Murrumbidgee

A man has been charged with large commercial drug supply after more than 50kg of illicit substances were allegedly seized following a vehicle stop in the Murrumbidgee region earlier this week.

About 5.30pm on Tuesday (1 June 2021), officers attached to Murrumbidgee Traffic and Highway Patrol Command stopped a white Mitsubishi Triton dual cab utility on the Sturt Highway, Hay, after checks revealed the vehicle was unregistered.

Officers spoke with the driver, a 65-year-old man, before searching the vehicle.

During the search, police allegedly uncovered more than 30kg of methamphetamine, more than 3kg of cocaine, and almost 3kg of heroin.

Officers also located 11kg of a brown substance, and more than 2kg of another substance believed to be prohibited drugs, which were hidden under tiles and paint.

All items seized – including the vehicle – will undergo further analysis.

The man was arrested and taken to Hay Police Station, where he was charged with three counts of large commercial drug supply, and drive unregistered vehicle.

He appeared at Griffith Local Court via AVL yesterday (Wednesday 2 June 2021), where he was formally refused bail to reappear in the same court on Wednesday 28 July 2021.
