Missing Persons Squad detectives have charged a man with murder following the discovery of a woman's body in Little River today.
The 67-year-old man was arrested at Melbourne Airport on Friday afternoon before he boarded an international flight.
The arrest follows a report to police on Thursday 2 April, that a 53-year-old woman was missing.
Enquiries by local police and detectives confirmed the Dandenong woman had not contacted family as expected and the circumstances were deemed suspicious.
As part of the investigation by Missing Persons Squad detectives a woman's body was found in the vicinity of Little River Road and the Princes Freeway in Little River Saturday afternoon and a crime scene was established.
Officers from the Major Crime Scene Unit are processing the scene.
The body, which is yet to be formally identified, is believed to be the missing woman.
The Patterson Lakes man has been charged with one count of murder and remanded in custody.
It is expected he will appear before the bail and remand court in Melbourne on Sunday.
