Police charge man with outstanding warrants after attempting to flee police at Port Kembla

A man has been charged with outstanding warrants after allegedly attempting to flee from police in Port Kembla yesterday.

Just before 9am on Thursday (11 March 2021), officers from Lake Illawarra Police District were patrolling at Port Kembla, when they noticed a man acting suspiciously.

As officers approached the man, he allegedly ran from police, jumped on to the roof of a house on Allan Street, before being arrested a short distance away.

Two police officers sustained minor injuries during the arrest and were taken to Wollongong Hospital for treatment.

The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Wollongong Hospital for observation.

The 28-year-old man was later released from hospital and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he was charged with three outstanding warrants, enter enclosed lands (trespassing) and resist officer in execution of duty.

He was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Friday 12 March 2021).
