Police charge pair over outstanding warrants at Wagga Wagga

Two people have been charged with outstanding warrants in the state's Riverina region.

About 3.45pm (Thursday 16 December 2021), officers attached to the Riverina Proactive Crime Team were conducting patrols in the Ashmont area when they observed a man they knew to be wanted on outstanding warrants.

Police approached the 19-year-old man and during his arrest, it will be alleged he pushed a male senior constable before attempting to flee.

The man then allegedly punched the officer and a male constable.

He was arrested and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where he was charged with four outstanding warrants, as well as resist officer in execution of duty and two counts of assault officer in execution of duty.

Later that day about 6pm, a 36-year-old woman was arrested at Wagga Wagga Police Station and charged with three outstanding warrants.

Police will allege in court that the man and woman were involved in a break, enter and steal in Broken Hill between Sunday 7 November 2021 to Thursday 11 November 2021.

Both were refused bail to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Friday 17 December 2021).

The officers were treated for swelling and bruising to their faces.
