A teenage boy is due to appear in court today charged after a police officer was injured and two cars were allegedly rammed by a stolen vehicle at Bourke earlier this week.
Officers from Central North Police District were alerted after a silver Toyota Kluger was stolen from a motel on Mitchell Street, Bourke, about 10.45pm (Tuesday 28 July 2020).
Patrolling police saw the SUV on Mitchell Street 30 minutes later and initiated a pursuit when the driver allegedly failed to stop when directed; it was terminated shortly after due to safety concerns.
Police will allege the SUV was used to ram two police vehicles – injuring an officer – before it was found burnt-out at the corner of Anson and Yanda streets at 2.50am (Wednesday 29 July 2020).
Following inquiries, detectives arrested a 16-year-old youth at a home in Bourke yesterday morning (Thursday 30 July 2020).
He was taken to Bourke Police Station where he was charged with 11 offences
• Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously (two counts)
• Drive motor vehicle menaces another with intent
• Use etc offensive weapon in company to prevent detention
• Take & drive conveyance w/o consent of owner
• Destroy/damage property in company (two counts)
• Destroy etc property in company use fire etc
• Operate vehicle so driving wheel/s undergo loss of traction
• Not give particulars to owner of damaged property, and
• Never licensed person drive vehicle on road.
The youth has been bail refused to appear in a children's court today (Friday 31 July 2020).
