A teenage boy will face court next month following an alleged pursuit at Charlestown early this morning.
About 2.20am (Friday 19 September 2025), police were patrolling Cadaga Road, Gateshead, when they attempted to stop a Toyota Kluger.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued to Gari Street, Charlestown, where the SUV allegedly collided with a police vehicle before the vehicle proceeded towards Warners Bay Road.
The pursuit ended when the driver stopped the vehicle at a unit block on Darcy Street, Cardiff.
OC spray was deployed to effect the arrest of the driver – a 17-year-old boy – who was then taken to Belmont Police Station.
There he was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, not give particulars to other driver, and never licensed person drive vehicle on road - first offence.
He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before a children's court on Monday 20 October 2025.
