Police charge teen over armed robbery at Forbes

A teenager has been charged after allegedly threatening staff with a knife at a supermarket in the state's Central West.

Shortly after 3pm yesterday (Monday 19 October 2020), officers from Central West Police District were called to a business on Rankin Street, Forbes, following reports of an armed robbery.

Police will allege a 17-year-old boy concealed several items up his shirt and attempted to leave the store without paying.

When confronted by staff members, it is alleged he produced a knife and threatened them before leaving the store.

Following inquiries, the teenager was arrested after allegedly attempting to evade police by swimming in Lake Forbes about 11pm yesterday.

He was taken to Parkes Police Station, where he was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon and assault police.

The boy was refused bail to appear before a Children's Court today (Tuesday 20 October 2020).
