Police Charge Teen Over Armed Robbery At Kempsey

A teenage boy has been charged after an alleged armed robbery at a business on the states Mid North Coast last night.

About 7.50pm yesterday (Thursday 2 July 2026), officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District responded to reports of an alleged armed robbery at a business on Smith Street, Kempsey.

On arrival, police were told a male allegedly entered the store, armed with a machete and threatened staff before stealing the cash register.

A crime scene was established and a search commenced.

About 8.10pm, patrolling police stopped and searched a 16-year-old boy walking on York Lane, during which they allegedly located and seized $295 in cash and a machete.

He was arrested and taken to Kempsey Police Station, where he was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon.

The boy was refused bail to appear before a childrens court later today (Friday 3 July 2026).
