About 2.45pm (Sunday 2 February 2020), emergency services were called to Corrimal Street, following reports of a stabbing.

Police will allege in court a 17 and 18-year-old man were walking along Harbour Street, when they were approached by a group of unknown males, who began questioning them about the belongings they had on them.

The pair walked away from the group, before one of the males threatened the older man with a knife and demanded he hand over his necklace.

The man refused to give it to him and attempted to flee, before he was allegedly assaulted, sustaining a wound to his thumb and back. The group fled the scene on foot.

The 18-year-old was treated at the scene and taken to Wollongong Hospital in a stable condition.

Following inquiries, officers from Wollongong Police District arrested a 15-year-old on Crown Street just before 4pm.

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with assault with intent to rob armed with offensive weapon wound/GBH and demand property with menaces with intent to steal.

The teen was refused bail to appear before a Children's Court today (Monday 3 February 2020).
