Police Charge Three Over Property Offences At Newcastle

Three people will face court charged after an investigation into alleged property offences in Merewether.

Officers attached to Newcastle City Police District were called to Scenic Drive about 3.30am last Friday (13 June 2025), following reports of attempted break and enters.

Subsequent inquiries revealed a group allegedly attempted to enter several homes and vehicles on Myamblah Crescent, Woodward Street, and Scenic Drive.

A short time later, during a patrol of the area, police approached a vehicle parked on Scenic Drive when three males ran from the vehicle.

A 24-year-old man was arrested, with a subsequent search of the man allegedly revealing a knife and cannabis.

He was issued a court attendance notice for custody of knife in public place, and possess prohibited drug, and is due at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 3 July 2025.

Following further inquiries, the same man attended Waratah Police Station about 12.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 17 June 2025), and was arrested and charged with three counts of take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, two counts of aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, and destroy or damage property.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 3 July 2025.

Following further inquiries, Operation Soteria police executed a search warrant at a home in Cessnock about 2.45pm yesterday (Tuesday 17 June 2025).

A 16-year-old boy and 19-year-old man were arrested at the home and taken to Cessnock Police Station.

The boy was charged with three counts of steal motor vehicle, two counts of aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company steal, and larceny.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before a children's court on Monday 23 June 2025.

The man was charged with two counts of goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, and possess prohibited drug.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Cessnock Local Court on Tuesday 1 July 2025.

Inquiries into the incidents are ongoing under Operation Soteria.
