Police charge three people with over 100 offences following property and violent crime in Townsville

Police investigating a series of linked robberies, car thefts and violent incidents in Townsville over the past week have so far charged three people with over 100 offences, Queensland Police say.

Around 8.20am on Friday, police intercepted an allegedly stolen 2010 Holden Commodore in Kirwan and four people were taken into custody.

As a result of investigations, a 17-year-old Kirwan man has been charged with 51 offences. They are:

  • 13 counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle;
  • 10 counts of burglary;
  • Five counts of evade police;
  • Three counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
  • Two counts of attempted robbery;
  • Five counts of stealing
  • Two counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence
  • Five counts of enter dwelling with intent to commit indictable offence; and one count each of:
  • Robbery in company;
  • Assault occasioning grievous bodily harm;
  • Go armed so as to cause fear;
  • Unlawful entry of a vehicle for commitment indictable offences;
  • Unlicensed driving; and
  • Obstruct police.

He appeared in the Townsville Magistrates Court today and has been remanded in custody to reappear on November 13.

An 18-year-old Mount Louisa man has been charged with 35 offences. They are:

  • 11 counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle;
  • Seven counts of burglary;
  • Five counts of enter dwelling with intent to commit indictable offence;
  • Two counts each of attempted robbery;
  • Two counts of enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence; and one count each of:
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
  • Assault occasioning bodily harm;
  • Robbery in company;
  • Unlicensed driving;
  • Evade police;
  • Unlawful entry of a vehicle for committing indictable offences;
  • Wilful damage; and
  • Obstruct police.

He is due to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court today.

A 16-year-old Mundingburra boy has also been charged with 18 offences. They are:

  • Five counts of burglary;
  • Three counts of stealing;
  • Seven counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle; and one count each of:
  • Attempted robbery;
  • Robbery in company;
  • Assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

These charges relate to a number of incidents over the past week including the serious assault of a man on Second Street in Railway Estate on September 17, the alleged armed robbery of a bottle shop on Bayswater Road in Garbutt as well as the alleged theft of a car at knifepoint from a home in Sanctuary Drive.

They also relate to an incident on September 22 in which a member of the public and police were allegedly threatened with a replica firearm and a brick was allegedly thrown through the windscreen in Ingham.

The Townsville Property Crime Unit works closely with general duties officers and detectives from the Criminal Investigation Branch and Child Protection and Investigation Unit to target offenders – often recidivists – who steal from others, damage property, steal cars or break into homes.

Police will continue to target those types of offences and put offenders before the Courts as part of our commitment to keep the people of Townsville safe.
