Police charge two after $2 million worth of 'ice' concealed in candles seized

Detectives have charged two men as part of ongoing investigations into the alleged supply of more than $2 million worth of 'ice' concealed in candles.

Earlier this year, detectives from the State Crime Command's Drug and Firearms Squad, with assistance from the NSW Crime Commission, commenced investigations into criminal syndicate involved in the supply of prohibited drugs – mainly methylamphetamine (ice) – across NSW.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators assisted by South West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad, Public Order Riot Squad and Operation ODIN, executed three search warrants at a business at Bankstown, unit at Rozelle and home at Balmain from 6am today (Tuesday 16 February 2021).

Officers located and seized approximately one kilogram of heroin with a street value of $250,000, over $75,000 cash, mobile phones, documents, encrypted electronic devices and smaller amounts of prohibited drugs, all which have been taken for further forensic examination.

A white Toyota Camry, which police will allege was used by the syndicate to transport prohibited drugs, was also seized.

A 45-year-old man was arrested his Rozelle home and taken to Newtown Police Station.

The Rozelle man was charged with supply prohibited drug (large commercial quantity) and direct criminal group.

Police will allege in court that the man was directing the activities of a criminal syndicate involved in the supply of 'ice' across NSW.

A 47-year-old man was arrested at Balmain and also taken to Newtown Police Station, where he was charged with supply prohibited drug (large commercial quantity) and participate criminal group.

Police will allege in court that the man was involved in the supply of prohibited drugs across NSW.

Both men were refused bail to appear at Newtown Local Court today (Tuesday 16 February 2021).

Investigations are continuing and further charges are expected to be laid.
