Police charge two after investigation into drug supply at Queanbeyan

Two people have been arrested as part of investigations into an alleged drug supply operation in the state's south.

In August 2019, Strike Force Burrahpore was established by the Southern Region Enforcement Squad to investigate the supply of prohibited drugs in the Queanbeyan area.

Following extensive investigations, strike force officers arrested a man and woman over their alleged involvement in the supply of 'ice' and cannabis throughout the region.

The police operation began shortly after 7am yesterday (Wednesday 11 March 2020), with a search warrant executed at a home in Queanbeyan West.

Officers located and seized ice, cannabis, drug paraphernalia and electronic equipment. These items will undergo forensic analysis.

A 33-year-old woman and 40-year-old man were arrested and taken to Queanbeyan Police Station.

The woman was charged with nine counts of supply prohibited drug, supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis and owner/occupier knowingly expose child to drugs.

The man was charged with five counts of supply prohibited drug, supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis and owner/occupier knowingly expose child to drugs.

Both were refused bail and are due to face Queanbeyan Local Court today (Thursday 12 March 2020).

Police will allege in court the pair were supplying drugs, often in the presence of children at the premises. The children have since been placed in the care of a relative and relevant family services have been notified.

Southern Region Operations Manager, Detective Acting Superintendent Joe Thone said the arrests are the culmination of excellent work by the Region Enforcement Squad.

"The supply of drugs in regional towns has a major impact on the community, and it simply won't be tolerated," A/Supt Thone said.

"We will continue to target those engaging in the supply of illegal drugs, and rest assured anyone who engages in these activities will face the full brunt of the law.

"If anyone in the community has any information about the supply of illegal drugs, I would like to urge them to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or local police."

Inquiries are continuing.
