Police charge two after nearly $23,000 cash seized in vehicle stop in Sydney CBD

Police have charged two men after seizing nearly $23,000 during a vehicle stop in Sydney's CBD yesterday.

About 3pm on Thursday (26 August 2021), officers attached to Police Transport and Public Safety Command's North Central Proactive Crime Team stopped a vehicle near Central Railway Station.

Officers spoke with the driver – a 52-year-old Bondi man – and his passenger – a 45-year-old Ermington man – who were found to be in breach of the Public Health Order.

In a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located $22,700 cash.

The men were arrested and taken to Surry Hills Police Station.

A short time later, officers executed a search warrant at a unit at Bondi and seized a further $1140 cash, documentation and credit cards.

All items will undergo further examination.

The older man was charged with not comply with noticed direction re s 7/8/9 - COVID-19, deal with property proceeds of crime and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle).

He was refused bail and is due to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court today (Friday 27 August 2021).

The younger man was charged with take part supply prohibited drug and not comply with noticed direction re s 7/8/9 - COVID-19.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 16 September 2021.
