Police Charge Two After Stabbing At Newcastle

Two men have been charged following an alleged stabbing in Newcastle at the weekend.

About 3.20am on Sunday 11 January 2026, emergency services were called to a carpark on Parry Street, Newcastle West.

At the scene, officers located an 18-year-old man who had sustained a stab wound to his neck and head.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Officers attached to Newcastle City Police District established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the incident.

About 11.25am today (Tuesday 13 January 2026), Newcastle Detectives and the Northern Operations Support Group attended a home in Rutherford.

Following a search of the home, two men – both aged 18 – were arrested and taken to Maitland Police Station.

One of the men was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of other(s), and affray.

The other man was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of other(s), and affray.

Both men were refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 tomorrow (Wednesday 14 January 2026).

Inquiries into the incident are continuing.
