Police charge two after Strathmerton fatal assault

Homicide Squad detectives have charged a man and a woman following the death of a man in Strathmerton last month.

Emergency services were called to a service station on the Murray Valley Highway about 1.15am on 8 August.

A 73-year-old Strathmerton man was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he later died on 28 October.

A 42-year-old Numurkah man, initially charged with assault offences on 9 August, was re-arrested this morning and charged with manslaughter.

He will face Shepparton Magistrates' Court today.

A 46-year-old Numurkah woman was also arrested on 9 August and charged with assault.

She was bailed to appear at Shepparton Magistrates' Court on 10 December.

Police do not believe the parties were known to each other and are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.
