Police Charge Two After Two Vehicle Crash At Newtown

Two men will face court after more than five people were taken to a hospital over a multi vehicle crash in Sydney's Inner West this week.

About 7pm yesterday (Sunday 29 June 2025), emergency services were called to Kings Street, Newtown, following reports of a multi-vehicle crash.

Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command attended the scene and the driver of a Mercedes SUV – a 43-year-old man – and his passengers – a 67-year-old woman, 42-year-old woman, 9-year-old girl and 12-year-old boy – were all taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital with minor injuries.

Three other drivers involved in the crash – a 65-year-old man in a grey BYD sedan, a 26-year-old woman in a white Toyota Corolla and a 26-year-old woman in a silver Toyota Yaris – were not injured.

The driver of a Black MG SUV – a 28-year-old man – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before he was taken to St Vincent's Hospital for further assessment and mandatory testing.

A crime scene was established, and police commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following inquiries, the 28-year-old man was charged with drive in a manner dangerous.

He was issued a court attendance notice to appear at Newtown Local Court on the Monday 4 August 2025.

His licence was also suspended.

Another man – aged 20 – was arrested at the scene after he allegedly attempted to interfere with police investigations and assaulted a female constable and NSW Ambulance paramedics.

He was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment, where he allegedly assaulted a male constable and security staff while under police guard.

On Monday 30 June 2025, the 20-year-old man was released from the hospital before he was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, assault police officer in execution of duty without aggravated bodily harm and assault frontline emergency worker – no actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Tuesday 1 July 2025).
