Police charge two men over burglaries

Police have arrested and charged two people following a series of burglaries and attempted burglaries in Mernda this afternoon.

Officers were called to Cropley Terrace after witnesses told police that offenders had broken into the property about 4.10pm.

It is believed the silver Ford Territory, which had been stolen from a Northcote address last week, left the scene shortly after.

The registration of the vehicle was obtained and officers set to the task of finding the Ford.

The Ford was spotted by Whittlesea police members travelling along Bridge Inn Road about 4.55pm

It was followed for a short time and was dumped in Lahinch Street, Broadmeadows where police saw two of the alleged occupants running through parkland.

A foot chase ensued and police caught up to and arrested an 18-year-old man from Gladstone Park and a 19-year-old man from Broadmeadows.

Both men have been charged with burglary, handle stolen goods, theft of motor vehicle and traffic related offences.

They have been remanded and will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
