Police charge two men over possession of a Desert Eagle pistol

Two men have been charged over the alleged possession of a Desert Eagle pistol in Tamworth.

About 1am yesterday (Thursday 23 May 2019), officers from Oxley Police District stopped and spoke with a man while patrolling in Kurrawan Street, Tamworth.

During a search of the man and his phone, police uncovered photographs of a distinct pistol being held by a pair of adult male hands.

Following a search of the nearby area, police located a disassembled Magnum Desert Eagle .22cal pistol.

The 43-year-old man was arrested and charged with possess unregistered firearm, possess unauthorised firearm-pistol, and not keep firearm safely-pistol.

He was refused bail and appeared at Tamworth Local Court, where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court next Monday (27 May 2019).

Police from Oxley Target Action Group conducted further inquiries to identify the person whose hands were in the photographs.

About 11.45am, a second man – aged 26 – was arrested at a home on Anthony Road, Tamworth, and taken to Tamworth Police Station.

The man was charged with three outstanding warrants and possess unregistered firearm and possess unauthorised firearm-pistol.

He was refused bail and appeared at Tamworth Local Court, where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court today (Friday 24 May 2019).
