Police charge two over assaults after fail to quit at Eastwood karaoke bar

Two men have been charged with assault after allegedly failing to leave a karaoke bar at Eastwood last night.

About 7pm (Wednesday 6 January 2021), police were called to the venue on Hillview Road following reports two men became violent when they were asked to leave a room due to capacity restrictions.

Officers were told the men – aged 37 and 47 – refused to leave and became violent towards staff members, allegedly pushing, slapping and throwing items at employees.

When officers from Ryde Police Area Command arrived, it's alleged the older man assaulted a male constable.

No one was seriously injured during the incident.

Both men were arrested and taken to Ryde Police Station.

The younger man, from Gorokan, was charged with affray, excluded person fail to leave premises when required, common assault (x3), and intimidation.

The older man, from Eastwood, was charged with affray, excluded person fail to leave premises when required, common assault, intimidation and assault officer in execution of duty.

They were both granted conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Monday 18 January 2021.
