Police charge two people with trafficking in controlled substance

Police have charged two people with trafficking in a controlled substance following a traffic operation in the Northern Midlands area last night.

Around 11:20pm, police intercepted an unregistered vehicle being driven by a 27-year-old man from New Norfolk.

A Random Breath Test (RBT) of the driver produced a positive result who was also subject to Oral Fluid Test (OFT) which was positive for drugs.

The vehicle was subject to a screening by the Drug Dog Detection Unit which resulted in approximately 112grams of cocaine located.

Both occupants of the vehicle were arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance along with minor drug offences.

The driver of the vehicle was also charged with traffic offences.

Both occupants were bailed to appear at the Launceston Magistrates Court on Wednesday 29 June 2022.

The value of the cocaine seized is $40,000.
