Two teenagers have been charged over an alleged robbery in the state's north-east overnight.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District were called to a liquor store on Goonoo Goonoo Road, Tamworth, about 10.30am yesterday (Monday 25 May 2026), responding to reports of a robbery.
Police will allege a 16-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl entered the business while a 15-year-old girl stayed outside.
Police will allege in court when the boy and the younger girl took alcohol from the shelf a staff member – a woman aged in her 30s – attempted to stop them from leaving.
The 15-year-old girl then allegedly grabbed the woman by her hair and punched her in the head. Police will further allege the younger girl also punched the woman in her face, with the boy also assaulting the employee.
Police will allege in court all three left with alcohol worth $230.
Police arrested a 16-year-old boy and two girls – aged 13 and 15 – about 30 minutes later at the intersection of Edgeroy Street and Florida Street, Tamworth, and seized bottles of alcohol.
All three were taken to Tamworth Police Station where the boy was charged with robbery in company, and breach of bail. He was refused bail to appear before a children's court today (Tuesday 26 May 2026).
The 15-year-old girl was charged with robbery in company and was granted strict conditional bail to appear before a children's court on Tuesday 2 June 2026.
The younger girl was dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
