Police charge woman after assaulting off-duty officer and members of public - Bondi Junction

A woman will face court today charged with numerous offences, including the assault of an off-duty police officer in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs yesterday.

In March 2021, the Eastern Suburbs Proactive Crime Team commenced an investigation into a series of random assaults in the Bondi Beach and Bondi Junction area, allegedly carried out by a woman wearing a distinctive bum bag.

About 5.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 30 March 2021), an off-duty officer observed the woman at a shopping centre on Spring Street, Bondi Junction.

Attempting to arrest the woman, the officer was allegedly kicked, choked, bitten on the arm, struck in the face and had hair pulled from her scalp.

Members of the public who came to the aid of the senior constable were allegedly scratched and bitten by the woman.

Officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command attended and subdued the woman. She was arrested and taken to Waverley Police Station.

The 34-year-old was charged with five counts of common assault, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, destroy or damage property, assault police officer in execution of duty causing actual bodily harm, resist or hinder police officer in execution of duty, and two counts of assault person aiding officer.

She was refused bail and will appear at Waverley Local Court today (Wednesday 31 March 2021).

The senior constable and members of the public were treated by paramedics at the scene.
