Police Charge Woman With Murder After Being Extradited From Victoria At Jerilderie

A woman will face court today charged with murder, after a man's body was found on the side of the Hume Highway earlier this year, in the state's south.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District were called to the Newell Highway, about 11km south of Jerilderie, about 12:35pm on Tuesday 17 June 2025, after the body of 44-year-old Mark Akers was found on the side of the road.

He had suffered critical injuries, allegedly as a result of being struck by a car.

Strike Force Zaventem was established, and investigations commenced into the circumstances.

About 1.20pm on Wednesday 23 July 2025, Victoria Police executed a search warrant at home in Hampton Park, Victoria where a 40-year-old woman - known to the man - was arrested.

Yesterday (Thursday 9 October 2025), extradition to New South Wales was re-applied for in the Melbourne Magistrates Court and granted.

Detectives attached to Murray River Police District transported the 40-year-old woman to Deniliquin Police Station, where a warrant was executed for murder (DV).

She was refused bail to appear in Bail Division Court 5 today (Friday 10 October).
