Police charge youth over Kings Meadows assaults

A 16-year-old youth has been charged after three alleged assaults at Kings Meadows.

Police were called to a carpark on Hobart Road about 5pm on Wednesday 23 August, after reports six youths were assaulting a young man.

A witness who tried to intervene was allegedly assaulted by three of the youths.

He was reportedly assaulted a second time when he tried to intervene again after the same youths allegedly assaulted another man in a separate disturbance.

The witness was treated at the scene by paramedics, and transported to the Launceston General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe the initial assault was a targeted incident involving people known to each other.

A 16-year-old youth was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with Stealing, Injure Property, Common Assault, Computer Related Fraud and Burglary and was detained to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court, Youth Justice Division later today.

Police would like to speak with the first and third victim, and are interested to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incidents at Kings Meadows on the 23rd of August
