Police commend revellers and event organisers at music festival in Wollongong

Police have commended revellers and organisers following the Corona Sunsets music festival, which was held at Wollongong over the weekend.

The festival was held at North Wollongong Beach between midday and 10pm on Saturday 1 December 2018.

Officers from Wollongong Police District Command, NSW Police Dog Unit, Mounted Unit, Public Order and Riot Squad, Police Transport Command, Wollongong Pushbike Unit, NSW Police Trailbike Unit, licensing unit and general duties officers conducted a high-visibility operation targeting anti-social behaviour, alcohol-related crime and drug offences.

During the police operation there were 24 positive indications to illicit substances detected. One man was charged with supply prohibited drug after a number of capsules were allegedly located on him.

Police ejected 17 people, searched nearly 60 people and charged eight people with fail-to-quit offences. Festival security ejected and refused entry to a number of people due to intoxication.

Wollongong Police District Duty Officer Inspector James Fryday, said overall police were happy with the behaviour of festival goers.

"Police were happy with the majority of festival revellers who behaved well, enjoyed the festival safely and respected other patrons," Inspector Fryday said.

"We will continue to work with the festival organisers who assisted with the police operation, and will target drugs, alcohol-related crime and anti-social behaviour at future festivals.

"Our aim is to ensure music-lovers can attend festivals and enjoy themselves in a safe, drug-free environment and ultimately, make it back home to their loved ones safely," he said.
