Police confirm identity of deceased woman

Police have confirmed the identity of a deceased woman found in water near the Derwent Entertainment Centre on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as a 69 year old Berriedale woman. Her name has not been released.

"Post mortem examinations indicate that the woman died as a result of drowning. There is no evidence to suggest suspicious circumstances at this stage, however, investigations are ongoing to gather as much evidence as possible," said Senior Sergeant Ian Mathewson.

"Police would like to thank members of the public for information leading to the deceased woman being identified. This now helps bring some closure for the woman's family. Our thoughts are with the woman's family and loved ones at this sad time."

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
