Police employee charged - Western Region

A special constable has been charged with firearm and weapon offences in the state's west.

About 8.50am on Friday 11 June 2021, officers attended a house in Hartley after reports of unregistered firearms on the premises.

Police seized a number of items, including unsecured ammunition, handcuffs, body armour and firearm parts.

Following inquiries, a 44-year-old man – who is a serving special constable attached to a command in the Western Region – was yesterday issued a Future Court Attendance Notice for three counts of fail to ensure safe keeping of prohibited weapon, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, and holder of Category A or B licence not have approved storage.

The man is due to appear before Lithgow Local Court on Thursday 16 September 2021.

His employment status is under review.
