Police encourage AFL footy fans to celebrate responsibly, TAS

Tasmania Police are encouraging footy fans to celebrate responsibly if they’re planning on having a few drinks while watching the AFL Grand Final this Saturday, Tasmania Police say.

"Traditionally AFL Grand Final Day is busy for Tasmania Police and we’ll have extra police officers out and about across the state making sure everyone is celebrating responsibly and safely," said Acting Inspector Ian Mathewson.

"If you’re planning on going out drinking please remember to act responsibly and look after your mates.

"Police will be patrolling entertainment precincts statewide and remind party goers that antisocial, drunk and unruly behaviour ruins the celebrations for others, and won’t be tolerated by police.

"We’ll have booze buses deployed statewide and be patrolling the roads for drivers under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Please, don’t risk it. Before you head out, make a plan for how you will get home safely. Losing your licence and seriously injuring or killing yourself or someone else isn’t the way we want anyone to end their grand final celebrations.

"We want everyone to enjoy their Grand Final day celebrations and get home safely."
