Police Fire on Stolen Vehicle in Kempsey Inquiry

An investigation is underway after police discharged a firearm at a motor vehicle in the state's north this morning.

About 3am (Saturday 16 August 2025), officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District attempted to stop a Toyota Landcruiser – believed to be stolen – using road spikes at the intersection of North and Tozer Street, West Kempsey.

The vehicle continued and drove towards police before a senior constable discharged their firearm at the vehicle, before it drove from the scene.

The officers were not injured, and the identity of the driver is unknown at this stage.

A short time later, the vehicle was located burnt out on Gordon Nixon Avenue, West Kempsey.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the incident has commenced.
