Police go above and beyond for music festival

Police are looking forward to four days of dancing, glitter and The Veronicas Untouched on repeat with the Beyond the Valley festival kicking off tomorrow.

Police have been working closely with the event organisers and partner agencies to make sure everyone can safely enjoy the likes of Rüfüs Du Sol, Owl Eyes and Matt Corby at the event.

The Public Order Response Team, Highway Patrol, Proactive Policing Unit and Passive Alert Detector (PAD) Dogs will be there from start to finish to make sure everyone arrives, enjoys and leaves the event safely.

Inspector Alison Crombie said police were looking forward to the event but would not tolerate any behaviour that compromises people's safety.

"Our local police look forward to Beyond the Valley every year - it is a diverse event in which crowds are generally well behaved," Insp Crombie said.

"Quirky costumes, interesting dance moves and a good attitude are welcomed but patrons will need to leave their alcohol, illicit drugs and anti-social behaviour at the gates.

"We've seen people attempting to smuggle alcohol and illicit drugs into this festival in the past and we'd like to remind everyone that security will be conducting searches on cars entering the venue.

"Significant numbers of police will be in attendance, including specialist resources such as PAD dogs to detect and deter any criminal activity.

"We encourage festival goers to keep an eye on their mates, and if you do think a friend or someone around you is in trouble contact Triple Zero for medical or police assistance immediately."

Beyond the Valley will run in Lardner Park from 28 December until 1 January.
