Police hold concerns for missing man in Kirrawee

Police are seeking public assistance as they search for a man who escaped police custody at Kirrawee, NSW Police say.

About 9.30am on Friday (29 April 2016), officers from St George Local Area Command were executing a search warrant at a home on Caravan Head Road, Oyster Bay, when they arrested 29-year-old Maxim Koopelain.

During the arrest, it’s alleged he managed to break free of police and was seen running down Waratah Street.

Police allege Mr Koopelain stole a grey Mazda from Caringbah later that afternoon.

Officers have been told he then attended a house in Casula about 1.30pm yesterday, where he left the Mazda and took another vehicle.

Mr Koopelain is still believed to have this car, which is described as being a red-coloured 1999-model Toyota Corolla sedan with NSW registration, ELC-003.

When he was last sighted, Mr Koopelain was wearing a blue short-sleeved shirt with ‘Shire PTC’ written on the front, black shorts and Adidas joggers.

He is described as being of South American appearance, about 170-180cm tall, with a medium build (about 70-80kg), an olive complexion, short dark brown hair and brown eyes.

It’s believed Mr Koopelain could head to Northmead, Mudgee, or Wadalda (Central Coast).

Police hold extreme concerns for Mr Koopelain’s welfare and are urging anyone who sights him, or has any information about his whereabouts to come forward immediately.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
