Police investigate after fire in Riverwood

Police are investigating after a fire in a residential unit block in Sydney's west last overnight.

About 12:50am (Monday 14 January 2019), emergency services were called to Washington Avenue, Riverwood after reports of a fire in a 56-unit residential block.

The building was evacuated (approx 30-40 residents) as NSW Fire & Rescue officers worked to extinguish the blaze.

The fire was contained to three units, two on the seventh floor and one on the eighth.

One unit, on the seventh floor where the fire began, was destroyed.

A woman was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for smoke inhalation and burns to her feet and was taken to Bankstown Hospital.

Officers from Campsie Police Area Command have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Inquiries continue.
