Police investigate after woman stabbed near Mt Druitt

Police are appealing for information after a woman was stabbed in Sydney's west overnight.

About 9pm yesterday (Sunday 14 March 2021), a woman was walking along Bougainville Road near Copeland Road at Lethbridge Park, when she was approached by an unknown man.

Police were told the man demanded the woman's bag, before stabbing her in the abdomen during a brief physical altercation and fleeing the scene.

The 48-year-old woman sought assistance nearby and was driven to Mount Druitt Hospital before being transferred to Westmead Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers from Mt Druitt Police Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As inquiries continue, police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident, or identity of the man, to come forward.

He is described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance with a thin build.
