Police investigate after woman struck by car on M4 - Merrylands

Police have commenced an investigation to determine how a woman was struck by a vehicle, which failed to stop, on the M4 at Merrylands overnight

Shortly before 3.30am (Sunday 9 June 2019), emergency services were called to the westbound lanes of the M4 near the Coleman Street off ramp, after reports a woman had been struck by a vehicle.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command attended and spoke to a taxi driver who was conveying the woman a short time before the incident.

The 25-year-old woman requested that the driver stop the taxi, and she alighted from the vehicle.

She was struck by a passing vehicle shortly after, which did not stop.

That vehicle has not been further described at this time.

The woman was treated by Ambulance paramedics who conveyed her to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Local police and officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit have appealed for anyone with information about the crash or dashcam footage to come forward.

A short time before the woman was struck, investigators believe a truck driver was able to avoid her and have urged the driver to come forward to assist their investigation.

Anyone with information or dash-cam footage relating to this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
