Police investigate armed robbery at Weranga

Police have charged three men following an alleged armed robbery and assault at Weranga yesterday afternoon (Monday February 20).

Police will allege around 1.40pm, a 40-year-old Tara man was stopped in his vehicle on Weranga North Road when he was approached by three men known to him.

The three men allegedly drove their car towards the Tara man a number of times before exiting the vehicle and threatening the man with a metal implement and bladed weapon.

Police will further allege the three men then assaulted the Tara man, before stealing his car keys and fleeing the scene in their own vehicle.

The Tara man sustained serious head injuries and was flown to Toowoomba Base Hospital in a stable condition.

Police located the three men a short time later and they were taken into custody.

A 20-year-old Weranga man has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, assault occasioning bodily harm and armed robbery.

A 27-year-old Marsden man and a 53-year-old Weranga man have both been charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm and armed robbery.

They are all due to appear before Chinchilla Magistrates Court on March 9.
