Police investigate attempted armed robbery at Rothwell

A man has been charged following the attempted armed robbery of a store in Rothwell during the early hours of this morning.

Initial inquiries indicate the man is alleged to have forced entry into the grocer on Deception Bay Road just before 3am wearing a mask and wielding a samurai sword.

It is further alleged he threatened the male shop attendant with the sword and demanded money.

The 44-year-old worker has then made a hasty retreat through the rear loading dock door.

Meanwhile, the man with the sword has allegedly continued around the shop in search of the staff locker area.

He allegedly took two bottles of orange juice, before using the blade to smash through the front door to exit.

The man was taken into custody shortly afterwards at the corner of Cambridge street and Jacka Court.

A 21-year-old man has been charged with enter premises with intent, stealing, wilful damage and attempted armed robbery.

He is due to appear before the Redcliffe Magistrates Court tomorrow.
