Police investigate card theft - South Yarra and Narre Warren

Detectives from Stonnington Crime Investigation Unit have released images of two men they wish to speak to following a series of incidents in South Yarra and Narre Warren earlier this year where stolen credit cards were used, Victoria Police say.

It’s believed a card was stolen from a letterbox in South Yarra some time between 19 and 23 March.

A man then attended a store in a shopping complex on Overland Drive, Narre Warren just before 12.45pm on 23 March and attempted to purchase over $4000 worth of mobile phones.

The transaction was declined, however he returned to the same store shortly after 5pm and this time was successful.

The man then attended a white goods store in Narre Warren just before 8.30pm that night and unsuccessfully attempted to buy almost $2700 worth of mobile phones.

The next day a second man takes the card to the same store and again tries to buy the mobile phones.

The transaction was declined and the man used a different card to spend about $2000.

On 2 May the first man went back to the store at the shopping complex and tried to purchase more items using a different card, which police also believe was stolen.

Detectives have released images of the two men they wish to speak to in relation to the matter.

The first man is described as being perceived to be of Caucasian appearance, aged in his mid 20s, with brown wavy shoulder-length hair and a brown beard.

While at the shopping complex he was wearing a fluro yellow t-shirt, blue pants and a back hat with blue motif.

While at the white goods store, he was wearing a black t-shirt, shorts and shoes, and a black hat with blue motif.

The second man is described as being perceived to be of Caucasian appearance, aged in his mid 20s with short spiky/messy brown hair and a sleeve tattoo on this left arm.

While at the white goods store he was wearing a white t-shirt.

Police are keen to speak to anyone with information regarding the incidents or anyone who recognises the two men.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
