Police investigate Carlton robbery and assault

Transit Criminal Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for public assistance following a robbery and assault in Carlton earlier this year, Victoria Police say.

Investigators have been told that two 18-year-old men boarded a tram with a group of friends on Swanston Street in the CBD about 12.40am on Friday 13 January.

While on board the tram, an unknown man approached one of the 18-year-olds and commented on his jacket.

When the 18-year-olds got off the tram in Carlton North, near the intersection of Lygon and Fenwick Streets, they were followed by two unknown men.

The offenders approached one of the 18-year-olds and made demands for his jacket.

They then punched the second 18-year-old before stealing the jacket and fleeing the scene on foot.

Police have released images of two men they believe can assist with their enquiries.

The first man is described as being 25-30 years of age, with facial hair; at the time of the incident he was wearing a white and red striped t-shirt, beige pants and carrying a backpack.

The second man is perceived to be Caucasian, about 20-25 years old, with shoulder length brown hair.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a black Hard Rock Café t-shirt and dark coloured shorts.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
