Police investigate Chadstone carjacking

Southern Metro Regional Crime Team detectives are appealing for witnesses following a carjacking in the car park of a Chadstone shopping centre in the early hours of yesterday morning, Victoria Police say.

The incident occurred in the car park of the Dandenong Road shopping centre just after midnight.

The victim, a 39-year-old Oakleigh man, told police that he had just pulled up outside the entrance to a supermarket on the Dandenong Road side of the shopping centre when a dark coloured sedan pulled in behind him.

A man got out of the vehicle, armed with a firearm, and approached the victim, demanding he hand over his car keys.

The victim gave the man his keys and the offender drove off in the victim’s 2016 Mercedes station wagon registered AIM 840 and valued at $70,000.

Police have released an image of a similar Mercedes station wagon in the hope that someone may have seen the vehicle being driven in the area following the armed robbery.

Investigators believe there were two other occupants in the dark coloured sedan at the time of the incident.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
