Police and emergency services were called to an address in Coburg following reports of an assault last night, Wednesday 11 November.
An 87-year-old man was located at a property on Reynard Street just before 11pm.
He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A 56-year-old Kurunjang man and a 45-year-old Morwell woman were arrested at the scene.
The pair remain in police custody and the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain ongoing.
It is believed all parties are known to each other.
Detectives from the Homicide Squad are currently on scene assisting with the investigation.
