Police investigate Dandenong North armed robbery

Police have released a CCTV image following an armed robbery in Dandenong North yesterday morning, Victoria Police say.

A 48-year-old man was getting into his taxi on Belmont Avenue when he was approached by an unknown man about 4.15am.

The man, who was armed with a baton, demanded money from the victim.

The offender then struck the victim with the baton before leaving with the victim’s mobile phone.

He got into a dark coloured vehicle, possibly a Ford sedan, and then left along Belmont Avenue before turning right on to Oakwood Avenue.

The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident.

Greater Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the incident and have released an image showing a man they wish to speak to.

He is described as having dark skin and was wearing a face mask and a checkered cap at the time of the incident.
