Detectives from Melton Crime Investigation Unit are appealing for public assistance following a shooting in Melton earlier this month, Victoria Police say.
A number of shots were fired into a residential property on Westlake drive about 2am on Saturday, 18 February.
At the time a family, including three children under 10, were sleeping inside.
No one was physically injured during the incident.
Investigators believe that the incident was a case of mistaken identity and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a motorbike travelling in company with a V8 sounding vehicle in the area around that time.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
