A crime-scene guard has been posted at a Hamlyn Heights primary school following a fire overnight, Victoria Police say.
Emergency services were called to the Chaucer Street premises last night at 9.15pm after passers-by saw the blaze in a portable classroom.
No other buildings were damaged.
An arson chemist will examine the site in the morning in an attempt to ascertain how the fire started.
