Police investigate serious assault at East Mackay

Detectives are seeking public assistance to help identify a man who may be able to assist police after a 52-year-old man was assaulted in East Mackay on Saturday morning.

Around 6am the man was at his Kippen Street house when he heard a loud bang from the front of his residence.

He went outside and saw a man at the open driver's door of the resident's Toyota Hilux which was parked on the road.

An altercation has occurred, and the 52-year-old man was struck by what is believed to be a steel bar to the right side of his head.

The man then fled the scene.

The 52-year-old man remains in Mackay Base Hospital with serious head injuries.

Detectives have released vision of a man walking on Kippen Street and anyone who recognises the man or has further information is urged to contact police.

Police are also appealing for anyone who was walking in the East Mackay area around 6am Saturday or people driving that have relevant dash cam vision to contact police.
