Police investigate serious assault atCBD, South Australia

A man has been arrested and another seriously injured following an assault in the Adelaide CBD this morning.

About 3.30am on Friday 2 October, Police Security Officers monitoring CCTV in the CBD alerted patrols to a disturbance occurring on North Terrace. One man was seen to seriously assault another man, knocking him to the ground. The suspect stole the victim's cigarettes before walking off.

Hindley Street patrols quickly responded and apprehended the suspect near the scene.

The victim, a 35-year-old man from the far north, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with head injuries.

A 19-year-old man from Elizabeth South was charged with assault causing harm, theft and breach of bail. He has been refused bail to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.
