Police investigate serious single vehicle rollover - Upper Blessington

Police are investigating a single vehicle rollover in north-east Tasmania this morning, in which a man received critical head injuries.

Police and emergency services were called at 10.45am to attend a single vehicle crash involving a red Toyota station wagon on Roses Tier Road at Upper Blessington, approximately a 40-minute drive from Launceston.

Both the 22 year old male driver – a provisional licence holder – and the 23 year old male passenger were removed from the vehicle. Both are from Launceston,

Initial investigations at the scene shows the driver initially lost control on a bend and has then lost further control when he has hit loose gravel causing the vehicle to roll twice landing on its driver's side in the middle of the road.

Police believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.

The driver sustained head injuries and was in a serious condition at the scene. Both men were taken to the LGH for assessment. The driver's condition was upgraded to critical and he was flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the crash or witnessed the vehicle's driving behaviour prior to the incident.

Police also request any witnesses that may have dash cam footage of the vehicle or the crash to come forward. This information can be supplied at the Launceston Police on 131444, or if you wish to remain anonymous you can phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestopperstas.com.au.
