Police investigate shooting and firearm theft at Orange

Police are investigating the shooting of a man and the theft of firearms in the state's Central West.

Early Sunday morning (21 April 2019), a 30-year-old man presented at Orange Base Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The man underwent surgery and has since been released.

Officers were told he was walking along Summer Street East in Orange about 12.30am, when he was shot by a man he didn't know.

In a separate incident, sometime between last Thursday (18 April 2019) and yesterday (23 April 2019), a home in Lords Place, Orange, was broken into.

A gun safe was forced open and five firearms; including a Stirling .22 calibre rifle, a Lithgow .303 calibre rifle, a Winchester .243 calibre rifle, a Remington .222 calibre rifle, and a double-barrel shotgun were stolen.

Police from Central West Police District have launched investigations into these incidents.

As their inquiries continue, they would like to speak with anyone who has information they may assist.
