Police investigate stabbing on Sunbury bound train

Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives are hoping to identify a man following a stabbing on a Sunbury bound train last week.

Police have been told a man was travelling on a train between Footscray and Sunshine railway stations about 9.15pm on Friday, 9 July.

It's believed the man became verbally abusive to others on board when two other passengers intervened.

The offender then produced a sharp object and stabbed a 33-year-old man two times.

The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The train arrived at Sunshine station, where the offender fled the scene.

The offender is perceived to be Caucasian, wearing a dark-coloured hooded jumper, a dark-coloured bandana covering the lower half of his face, black pants, and blue shoes.

Investigators have released images and CCTV of a man that may assist with their enquiries.

Detectives believe the offender assaulted two other men in two separate incidents earlier in the night.

The first incident occurred at a supermarket on Barkly Street in West Footscray, where the offender punched a man at about 8.45pm.

In the second incident, he boarded a bus from Barkly Street in West Footscray, assaulted a passenger on board, then ran off via the rear door at approximately 8.50pm.

Police are keen to speak to any witnesses that may have been in these areas at the time of the incidents.
