Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating multiple incidents of criminal damage to a South Yarra synagogue.
It is understood an unknown male spray-painted offensive phrases on the outside walls of the Toorak Road synagogue on multiple dates, including:
- Tuesday, 11 March about 1:45am
- Saturday, 21 June about 9.50pm
- Sunday, 22 June about 4:02am
- Tuesday, 22 July about 11.30pm
- Wednesday, 30 July about 8:35pm.
Each time, the male arrived alone on a black-e scooter.
Investigators have released footage of a male they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
The male is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance, is of medium build and bald.
While his clothing is different in each incident, his attire usually includes a long black jacket and a black and white face covering.
During the July incidents, the male wore a "scream" mask which completely covered his face.
There is absolutely no place at all in our society for hate-based behaviour.
Anyone who witnessed the incidents, with CCTV/dashcam footage or with information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
